MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A 12-year-old girl is recovering after police say her sister accidentally shot her after mistaking a real gun for a BB gun.

On Friday, just after 3:00 p.m., officers responded to the shooting on Lightwood Cove.

Officers made the scene and found the 12-year-old sitting on the curb on the street.

She had a gunshot wound to her left foot.

The sister of the 12-year-old told police she accidentally shot her in the foot because she thought the gun was a BB Gun, according to the police.

The victim said they were in the master bedroom where her sister found the gun and when she was shot.

Police say the gun was a Glock 19 9mm.

The victim was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition. The family told Action News 5 the girl was taken home Saturday in a cast and will make a full recovery.
