Finger Lakes Stakes Action Kicks Off Monday With Featured George Barker

The 2025 live Thoroughbred racing stakes season at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) in Farmington, N.Y. kicks off on Monday with the $50,000 George Barker Stakes. The 40th running of the Memorial Day feature will be contested at six furlongs.

Looms Boldy will make his second career visit to FLGR, but first in two years. He scored a convincing 5 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes in his first appearance in 2023.

The Brad Cox-trainee has won a total of three stakes races. His most recent triumph was in the $125,000 John Morrissey Handicap at Saratoga on Aug. 8.

The 5-year-old gelding is listed as the lukewarm 5-2 program choice for the George Barker, which will be run as the fifth race on the nine-race program. He will be under the direction of jockey Andre Worrie. The race is the final leg of the early Pick 5 and starts the late Pick 5.

Lady’s Golden Guy, the second choice on the morning line at 3/1, appears to be returning to form heading into the Memorial Day feature. He dominated an FLGR allowance field by six lengths in his 2025 debut on May 6.

The Debra Breed-trainee did not visit the FLGR winners circle during the 2024 meet. However, the 8- year-old gelding has demonstrated an affinity for his home track in the past, winning 13 of 44 lifetime starts, including two stakes victories. Nazario Alvarado will guide Lady’s Golden Guy, who has career earnings of $316,415.

A field of six is entered for the Barker.

Memorial Day at the Races will also include Carrubba’s Chicken Barbeque, located near the Clubhouse entrance, serving from noon to 4:30 pm and the Fairport Hots Food truck, on the track apron, selling all the Summertime favorites.
